The Best Robot Vacuum For Carpet
Whether you’ve got carpet with a high or low pile there’s a robotic vacuum for you. These smart devices navigate your home automatically, pick up debris and clean under furniture.
They have advanced features like mapping, which help them navigate through your home and keep track of where furniture is. They can also boost suction power to clear dirtier areas.
iRobot Roomba 694
The iRobot Roomba 694 is a basic robot vacuum that is able to work on carpets with a low pile or bare floor. It has a decent suction and can clean most debris, however it struggles with larger particles like sand or rice. It is capable of cleaning pet hair, but isn’t as strong against tangling as premium Roomba models such as the j7 and I6.
The Roomba is easy to use. It has a trio of buttons on its top cover: ‘Clean’ launches the cleaning process and ‘Dock’ allows it to be put back in its charging station and ‘Spot Clean’ activates the targeted cleaning. It can be controlled via an app for smartphones that lets you program or stop/start cycles and also adjust settings. It is also possible to pair the device with smart home devices like Alexa or Google Assistant to control it by voice commands.
This vacuum cleaner is slower than some others, but it is able to get into the most crevices and corners. It has a large dustbin, which is great for reducing the frequency the frequency you have to empty it. It is compatible with digital mapping and virtual barriers, which allows you to program the robot to stay out of certain areas or to stop cleaning completely to stop it from getting stuck.
It’s not the best for its price, but it’s still better than the majority of other options. The Roborock E4 is more advanced than the Roomba 694 with superior cleaning efficiency on carpets with low and no pile. It also has a more efficient cleaning path and has longer battery life. It is also more durable, has fewer components that require regular maintenance, is priced less over its life and charges faster than 694.
You may also want to consider other models in the iRobot range, including the v7 or the 981. The v7 and 981 are more expensive, but they offer significant improvement in cleaning efficiency, both on low and bare pile floors. They also have a bigger dirt compartment and charge faster, move more easily, and are easier to pair up with smart home devices.
Shark RV1001AE IQ
This budget self-emptying robotic vacuum cleaner does an excellent job on low-pile carpet and hard flooring. The combo brush can reach into edges and corners, and it automatically increases suction when it spots carpet. It also does a good job of cleaning dirt off mid-pile carpet. The IQ has a small footprint and also a self-emptying function. If you wish to alter the floor’s levels or define areas that are not allowed to be used, you’ll need to manually reset the map.
The IQ’s application has advanced mapping and automation features but it’s missing no-go zones that are available on iRobot models. Its smart-pathing system allows for greater maneuverability and the high-pile feature of its carpet cleaning mode is effective, although it can get stuck on the tassels of the rug.
In our tests, we found that the IQ handled pet hair with ease. It was able to get rid of the majority of hair on bare floors and a decent amount on medium-pile rug. It was less effective on shag carpets, where it struggled to get at dirt and dust buried within the fibers. It was able to maneuver the legs of chairs, small spaces as well as the base of an IKEA wooden step stool. It was slower on floors that were not paved but it was able to recover speed and performed better than other robots we evaluated.
The IQ is a better option for most users than the iRobot Roomba. It has a larger dustbin, lasts longer on a charge and is capable of maneuvering itself around obstacles. It comes with mopping tools that are able to clean up sticky messes. The iRobot is, on the other hand feels better constructed and has fewer parts that require maintenance or replacement and incurs fewer cost per year, and can create virtual no-go zones using its companion app. It is able to even resume cleaning from the point it started if it runs out of battery before finishing the job. The iRobot can also be controlled using voice, which is a huge plus for many users.
The RoboVac 11S from Eufy isn’t the most feature-rich robot vacuum available, but it does offer powerful cleaning capabilities at an affordable price. It’s designed for those who don’t require a complicated mapping system or an app to control the device. This Robot mop vacuum Combo can run for a long time and includes a remote, cleaning tool, AC power adapter, charging base and extra filters.
The 11S is slim and sleek, with an upper deck of tempered glass that is covered with plastic, which is finished to appear like brushed aluminum. It’s a nice change from the industrial and utilitarian designs of Roomba, Samsung and Neato.
In our tests, the eufy 11S was excellent at picking up large particles and fine dust on hard flooring. However, it struggled to give high and medium pile carpeting an effective deep clean. It also has a tendency to bump into furniture and people in its path however, it’s able detect those obstacles using sensors. If it encounters them it ceases to move and emits an alarm so that you can manually steer it around the obstacle and then get it back to work.
Another excellent feature of the eufy 11S is its BoostIQ mode that lets you set the robot to automatically adjust its suction power to match floor type and the level of mess. The remote control makes it simple to direct the 11S to the desired place.
If you don’t have a lot of furniture in the space where you’d like to vacuum, Single Room Mode is an excellent alternative. The eufy will take 30 minutes cleaning the area that it is assigned to.
You can also opt for Edge Cleaning that reduces the time spent in each location to 20 minutes to ensure optimal battery life. This feature allows the eufy to move in a spiraling manner cleaning edges and corners.
Miele Complete C1
The Miele Complete C1 is an excellent mid-range robot vacuum that is a top performer on carpet. Its performance on floors that are not bare is also outstanding. It can remove rice and other fine debris effortlessly. The suction power doesn’t drop as the dirt bin fills. Its design that is allergy-friendly and sealed with air captures allergens to keep your family healthy. It uses an onboard HEPA filter and self-emptying dustbin, so you don’t need additional filters or a separate vacuum bag.
It’s not as powerful as pricier models, but it’s great for tackling dirt and deep cleaning. It has two front cameras which provide a live feed to your smartphone. It also comes with one of the most advanced obstacle avoidance systems. It also comes with a huge dustbin, long runtime and a speedy, bump-free clean-up.
The Complete C1 is unlike most robots in that it is able to switch between two heads, a standard and a turbo head for various kinds of flooring. The turbo head is best on low-pile or high-pile carpeting, while the standard powerhead is ideal for floors with no flooring and light rug. It also features an automatic height adjustment system that enables it to adjust to different types of flooring without manual adjustments.
This model comes with an SBD 285-3 Classic Combination Floorhead that can handle both hard floors as well as carpeting with a medium pile. The powerhead can be easily moved and reach difficult spots. It has five different adjustments to the surface and a brushroll-off switch to prevent tangled hairs.
The Classic C1 has a self cleaning brush roll, it has a UtraClean Mode that cleans the same area three times, and a self-emptying dustbin that can be emptied with a single button press. Its noise level is slightly higher than that of other models however, its powerful 1,200-watt motor and solid construction make it well worth the extra cost.
If you’re willing to spend an extra amount then the Miele Complete C3 canister robot vacuum is an excellent all-around robot vacuum robot. It is more effective on carpets than the Classic C1. It is better suited for all types of floors and is more robustly built and comes with an HEPA filter.
